Red Apple Group: The Empire of Catsimatidis

While attending New York University, John A. Catsimatidis also worked for his cousin’s grocery store. It was in 1971 that he got his own small grocery in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. This small space which he named Red Apple is going to be a milestone of his soon-to-rise empire. From his classic rags to riches story, he is now heralded as one of the richest men in the world.

The Red Apple Group is a holding company that includes businesses in crude oil processing and distributing, a chain of supermarkets, gasoline stations, real estate holdings, an aircraft leasing business, and a publication. United Refining is the oil processing subsidiary of the business which distributes fuel to its Country Fair, Kwik Fill and Red Apple Food Marts, and gas stations in the states of New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The business is capable of producing up to 70,000 barrels of oil a day.

During the last fiscal year, the business was able to generate a revenue amounting to $4 billion which made the company one of the largest privately owned business in the United States. Red Apple Group keeps their headquarters in New York, New York.
